E-coli scare costs Dutch growers €50m a week

The E-coli scare centered on Germany is costing Dutch market gardeners upwards of €50m a week, the fruit and vegetable marketing board said on Friday.

Even though Dutch produce has been declared safe, exports have collapsed since the start of the outbreak.
‘We have over 1,400 growers which employ 21,000 people as well as over 1,000 trade and export firms,’ a spokesman told news agency ANP. ‘This is happening completely outside their control and they are being hit very hard financially.’
