Dozens of small schools set to close
Dozens of small primary schools are set to close down permanently over the summer break because they do not have enough pupils to make them viable, the AD reports on Tuesday, using government figures.
Most are in the southern provinces of Zeeland and Limburg, but Groningen and Noord-Holland are also affected. Declining birth rates and the lure of the urban metropolises are to blame for the falling school roles.
In total, 36 schools are set to disappear because they have fewer than 23 pupils, the paper says.
