CEO Wijers to leave Akzo Nobel next year

Hans Wijers is stepping down as CEO of paint and coatings company Akzo Nobel next year, the company said in a statement on Friday.

Wijers, a former economic affairs minister, took over the helm in 2003. He focused the company more on the production of coatings, selling off the Organon pharmaceuticals division.
Wijers’s replacement is Ton Bücher, who chairs Swiss firm Sulzer. He will join Akzo Nobel at the beginning of next year. The appointment is still pending AGM approval.
