CDA MPs concerned about childcare subsidies

MPs from the governing Christian Democrat party have raised concerns about social affairs minister Henk Kamp’s plans for childcare subsidies, reports news agency ANP on Monday.

The MPs cannot be counted on to vote for the plans because from 2013 not all parents will be assured of a threeway split in costs between parents, employers and government, Eddy van Hijum told ANP.
Van Hijum says this is ‘breach of contract’ by the government and even better-off parents will consider stopping work rather than pay more for childcare.
Labour MP Mariƫtte Hamer is also worried that higher income parents will stop work just when an aging population will require more people to stay in work.
Parliament will debate childcare subsidies on Thursday.
