AD: Footie rumours: who’s doing it with whom?
Summer is here. Most European football competitions have come to an end and transfer windows have been opening to let in a seductive breeze. Who’s going where, asks AD.
Koef is being wooed by Birmingham city. PSV striker Danny Koevermans isn’t sure whether relegated Birmingham is the one for him. Moreover, manager Alex Mc Leish, the man who had chosen Koef has left the club.
Groningen may be losing its captain if Andreas Granqvist decides to go to Genoa. Several Italian media reported on the Swede’s visit to Genoa. The last contractual hurdles out of the way, Granqvist home for the next few seasons will be Genoa.
Milan will probably win the battle for Christiaan Eriksen. Both AC Milan and Chelsea have been eying the 19 year old Ajax player. But according to his manager Martin Schoots Eriksen is staying put for the moment.
On the coaching front Marco van Basten is mentioned as a strong contender for the FC Twente coaching job now that Michel Preud’homme has left. Ronald Koeman is also in the race.
Bankrupt RBC Roosendaal is working on a comeback and is trying to get into the top amateur league. Former player and prospective coach Eric Hellemons has been busy and has recruted nine players already. He is now trying to lure Rob Penders back to his old stomping ground. The defender is leaving NAC after twelve seasons.
Bas Dost has had enough of SC Heerenveen. ‘Bas wants a fresh start at a new club’. His manager Henk Nienhuis says. Sporting Lisbon has been linked to the Jong Oranje striker but Dost is more interested in a fling with Feyenoord.
Real is still flirting with Atlético Madrid’s Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguëro. Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas would welcome him with open arms: ‘At the moment Aguëro is one of football’s three or four better players. We would be happy to have him.’
Insiders are putting money on Michel Bastos signing with Juventus. The club will be forking out €15m for the player who has already let it be known he wouldn’t mind moving to Turin. But Bastos will only go if he is granted the French nationality.
Samir Nasri is seriously hot. The French Arsenal midfielder has already been linked to rival Manchester United, and Internazionale also has the slender player in its sights. Nasri is said to prefer Milan.
Christiano Ronaldo is staying with Real Madrid. His name was mentioned in connection with Manchester City for a while but he has said it won’t be happening this summer. Ronaldo is not ruling out a move, however. ‘Nobody can predict the future of a football player. Me play for Barcelona? Never say never..’
