Women should dress modestly in summer, says minister

Women would do well to cover themselves up in the summer in line with Biblical teachings, an orthodox minister says on a website for young Christians within the strict reformed Protestant church.

Asked by a young man how he should cope with the fact that women wear fewer clothes in the summer, Arie Simons says he hopes all women and girls realise what ‘scanty clothing’ does to men.
‘They are a temptation for men, partly due to their behaviour, carriage and appearance,’ Simons writes before quoting a New Testament verse which states women should ‘dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes’.
Simons, born in 1958, worked in a clothes shop before becoming a minister when he was 30, Trouw points out.
