The coalition running Venlo city council in Limburg province has collapsed because of disagreements over building a new multi-functional sports complex which will also house local football club VVV.
The local Labour party opposes a decision to spend €37m on the complex, saying it is an irresponsible move at a time of spending cuts. There is majority support for the plan on the city council.
