The Netherlands backs Lagarde for IMF job
Finance minister Jan Kees de Jager has described French finance minister Christine Lagarde as an ‘outstanding’ candidate to take over the top job at the International Monetary Fund.
‘If Lagarde puts herself forward, she will have my full support’, De Jager told Radio 1 on Monday.
The minister said he considers it very important that Europe supply the successor to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who is facing sexual assault charges in the US.
Lagarde also has the backing of Britain. According to US officials, the appointment process is still wide open.
