T-Mobile scraps 1,900 jobs
Mobile phone operator T-Mobile is to scrap 1,900 jobs in the Netherlands following falling profits and turnover earlier this year, insiders told the Financieele Dagblad on Tuesday.
The telecoms sector is under pressure from free chat services and social media. In addition, T-Mobile has admitted it has not managed to get its costs under control.
The company saw a fall of 5% in turnover in the first quarter of 2011 despite a growth in customer numbers. Profit was down by nearly 20%.
Earlier this year, T-Mobile suffered a massive network breakdown, with customers unable to phone, use internet or send text messages for 24 hours.
