Swim teacher faces ten years in prison

The public prosecutor is asking the appeal court for a ten year jail sentence for swimming teacher Benno L, an increase of three years on the sentence he received in 2010.

Benno L, who ran a swimming school for handicapped children, was arrested in June 2009 and faced three counts of attempted rape, 29 charges of assault and 40 charges of abuse and possession of child pornography.
The public prosecutor asked for ten years and psychiatric prison at the original trial, but has now dropped the latter demand following psychiatric reports that L is unlikely to reoffend.
The court at the original trial found L guilty of assault, abuse and possession but the public prosecutor is convinced he is also guilty of rape and wants a longer sentence.
