Senior citizens to take brunt of health cuts

Health minister Edith Schippers and junior health minister Marlies Veldhuijzen plan to make €220m in savings by cutting subsidies for senior citizen organisations.

Organisations caring for patients and handicapped people will still receive subsidies, but senior citizens who are ill or incapacitated will have to join these rather than have their own organisations, reports news agency ANP.
Health cuts will also be made by scrapping Postbus 51 commercials and on IT projects such as the electronic patient file.
Money will, however, be made available for more neighbourhood sport and exercise and for the national screening test for bowel cancer announced for 2013.
