People who donate a kidney to another person should be top of the queue for a donation if they go on to develop kidney disease, the national health council said on Thursday.

Every year two people who have donated a kidney develop problems with their own organs. Last year 470 people donated a kidney to family or friends, accounting for just over half of kidney transplants.
