Palatial home for national history museum?
The national history museum, which lost its funding because of government cutbacks and is still without a permanent home, has set its eye on the Soestdijk palace near Hilversum as a possible location, the Volkskrant reports.
Soestdijk was the home of queen Beatrix’s mother Juliana and has been empty since her death.
The museum was originally due to be housed in a purpose built building in Arnhem. A number of important historians also support Soestdijk as an alternative, the paper says.
