European digital affairs commissioner Neelie Kroes regularly consulted five different astrologers and a clairvoyant between 1991 and 2003, her former partner Bram Peper says in Wednesday’s AD.
Neelie asked advice about her private affairs ‘but mostly about business matters,’ Peper says. ‘Nijenrode [ the private business university where she was chairwoman], business deals.’
‘I was worried about it, because I thought the contacts made her vulnerable. But at a certain point, you learn to put up with people’s foibles,’ the AD quotes Peper as saying.
Kroes joined the European Commission as competition commissioner in 2004.
One astrologer, Lenie Drent, also used to advise businessman Dick Paarlberg, an old friend of Kroes who was sentenced to 4.5 years in jail for money laundering last year. His appeal begins on Wednesday.
Kroes refused to comment on the claims, the AD said.
The claims will be included in a biography of Kroes due out in September.
