More heath fires, two teenagers arrested – Update
The heath fire that has been raging in Schoorl since Sunday afternoon had still not been put out on Monday afternoon, although it is under control.
There are now 200 firefighters and four helicopters dropping water and struggling to douse the flames in the high winds. The army is also involved.
It is the worst fire in the coastal region north west of Amsterdam since 2009.
On Sunday afternoon a fire was spotted on heathland at Katwijk and police arrested two local youngsters seen in the area. They admitted to starting a small fire but it is not yet clear if this led to the larger blaze.
The youngsters were released without charge on Monday afternoon, reports Trouw.
Another huge blaze at Sint Maartenszee and the smaller blaze at Katwijk and another at Egmond aan Zee have been put out.
The fire risk remains high in large parts of the country because of the long spell of hot, dry weather.
