‘EU economy faces toughest challenge since World War II’
Every country in the EU should be under strict financial supervision to make sure they reform their economies properly over the next few years, economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen told television talk show KRO Brandpunt.
The challenge currently facing the EU is similar to the rebuilding of Europe after World War II, he told the programme.
‘It cannot be right that in some countries people retire at 55, sit in the sun and live on credit while in other countries they have to work on until 67,’ Verhagen is quoted as saying.
The Netherlands has come through the crisis in good shape and is an example of how other EU countries should reform their economies, the minister said.
