‘Defence ministry to shut Eindhoven air base’

The defence ministry is to close the Eindhoven airbase as part of the cutbacks, civil service news website Binnenlands Bestuur reports on Wednesday.

The website says defence minister Hans Hillen will make the announcement this summer. The base employs around 1,000 people.
Eindhoven’s civilian airport is housed on the military base and the ministry hopes to sell the land to the airport and local authorities, the website says.
