The alliance between the minority government of the VVD Liberals and Christian Democrats and Geert Wilders’ anti-Islam PVV was born out of necessity, not love, VVD MP Atzo Nicolai tells website nu.nl in an interview.

Nicolai is standing down as an MP to take over as director of DSM Nederland.
In a farewell interview, he tells the website the coalition was formed because the government’s finances needed sorting out.
‘In terms of social security and socio-economic reform you can do good business with the CDA, but when it comes to development aid, your hands are tied,’ Nicolai said.
