Ajax beats Twente 3-1 to take premier division title

Amsterdam football club Ajax clinched the premier division title on Sunday with a nail-biting final match of the season against league leaders and defending champions FC Twente.

Just one point had separated the two clubs as they went into the match in a packed out Arena stadium in Amsterdam.
The two sides met last week in the Dutch Cup, which Twente won 3-2.
The last time Ajax won the league title was in 2004. This is the club’s 30th premier division win.
Both Ajax and Twente will play in the Champion’s League competition next season.

Meanwhile, a 0-0 draw against Groningen left PSV Eindhoven in third place, two points behind Twente.
PSV and AZ of Alkmaar will both play in the Europa League next season. A play-off will determine who takes the remaining place.
