17-year-old poker player’s winnings go to charity
The $518,000 won by a 17-year-old boy from Kerkrade in an online poker tournament in March is to be be given to charity, poker website Pokerstars has decided.
Jimmy Jonker won the money playing under the name of his 47-year-old father Jos but boasted about his win on several chat sites, eventually leading Pokerstars to realise he was under their official age limit.
The prize money will be given to charity, not divided up between the other winners, because Jonker had not cheated, a Pokerstars spokesman is quoted as saying in the Parool.
