Wilders kept up-to-date on cabinet financial setbacks

Geert Wilders, leader of the anti-Islam PVV, is being kept closely informed about the cabinet’s plans to absorb new financial setbacks, the Volkskrant reports on Friday, quoting political sources in The Hague.

The PVV is not part of government but has agreed to support the cabinet in terms of financial policy in return for tougher immigration rules.
The party agreed to an €18bn package of spending cuts when it signed the alliance with the minority government. Now a further €2bn in savings need to be found because some ministries have overspent their budgets.
However, the paper points out, cuts are most likely to fall in social security and healthcare, policy areas in which the PVV opposes a reduction in spending.
