Tax office claims €24m from law-breaking staffing agencies

The tax office last year imposed fines and back-dated social security premiums totalling €24m on dodgy staffing agencies, the finance ministry said on Wednesday.

The agencies were mainly fined for not declaring all their income, thereby underpaying taxes and premiums, the ministry said.
In total 1,656 staffing agencies and companies which work with them were investigated.
‘Most firms meet their tax obligations and need to know that those which don’t will be tackled hard,’ said junior finance miniser Frans Weekers.
