Security service chief to head national police force

The current head of the AIVD national security service is to be the first chief of the national police force.

Gerard Bouman, 58, was formally police chief in The Hague and also worked for the public prosecution department.
The government is planning to merge the 25 regional forces into a single national police force which will have 10 regional divisions.
