No maximum for political gifts
The government does not plan to introduce a maximum for political gifts in new legislation on party funding, as suggested earlier, news agency ANP said on Thursday.
The draft legislation was sent to parliament on Wednesday. The main thrust of the new rules is to increase transparency about political party funding.
Geert Wilders, leader of the anti-Islam PVV, opposes the plan because it will require him to name the party’s financiers – thought to include a number of wealthy US conservatives. The PVV does not have any members and so does not qualify for certain government subsidies.
