MPs concerned about Brussels’ civil law harmonisation plan

MPs are concerned about European Commission plans to make civil law rulings in one EU country apply across the community as a whole.

That would mean family or inheritance law rulings in another country which would apply in the Netherlands as well, without Dutch court involvement.
MPs say they are concerned this could lead to Dutch nationals becoming the victims of corrupt court decisions.
The Commission argues that if civil law problems arise for people who move within the EU or who have property in another member state, this can in practice interfere with their right to free movement.
