Memorial service held to mark supermarket shooting

A memorial service has been held in Alphen aan den Rijn for the victims of the shopping centre shooting 10 days ago in which seven people, including the gunman, died.

Queen Beatrix and prince Willem-Alexander joined the prime minister Mark Rutte plus survivors and members of the emergency services at the ceremony in the town’s theatre.
Hundreds of people followed the ceremony on outdoor screens set up in several places around the town, and the flags hung at half mast.
Tristan van der Vlis shot dead six people at a busy shopping centre in the commuter town earlier this month before turning a gun on himself.
An investigation is under way into how Van der Vlis, 24, was able to have a gun licence given his history of mental problems.
