Man sets himself on fire in central Amsterdam
A man has been very seriously injured after setting fire to himself on Dam square in central Amsterdam, close to the national war memorial.
Eyewitnesses told the Telegraaf the man deliberately set fire to himself. He spoke Dutch with a ‘foreign accent’ and appeared to be disturbed, eyewitnesses said.
According to Nos television, he started an argument with some English-speaking tourists and warned people to keep out of his way.
Police are not releasing any more information about the man in line with official policy on dealing with attempted suicides.
