Food industry says no to EU labelling plan
The Dutch food industry is urging members of the European parliament to vote against new rules on food labelling, news agency ANP reports.
They argue the changes, which the parliament will vote on later this month, will make their jobs more difficult without helping consumers.
In particular, the food firms oppose plans to make sure the country of origin of every ingredient is listed on food packaging.
They argue consumers are not interested in this information and it says nothing about the quality, safety or sustainability of the product. It will also boost costs.
