Daycare abuse scandal, parents to sue director

Parents of children at a pre-school daycare centre in Amsterdam where a paedophile worker is alleged to have abused a number of children are planning to sue the former director.

The parents claim Albert Drent knew or ‘should have known’ about the abuse and taken action, lawyer Richard Korver told local television station AT5.
The claim follows the publication of an official report into the childcare abuse scandal, which focuses on Robert Mikelsons and his partner. Mikelsons has admitted abusing over 80 children at several creches in the city and in private homes where he worked as a babysitter.
The report says management at the Hofnaartje creche, where many of the incidents took place, had not properly looked into various parents’ concerns about odd events involving Mikelsons.
Nor had the creche management involved the police or health service workers in investigating the claims.
