Clarence Seedorf, Linda de Mol on queen’s honours list

Footballer Clarence Seedorf, television presenter and actress Linda de Mol and entertainer André van Duin are among the 3,354 people to be awarded a decoration in queen Beatrix’s latest honours list.

Most people – 3,347 – were made members of the Order of Oranje-Nassau – which has six levels. The honour was introduced in 1892 for foreigners and the ‘lower classes’.
10 people were honoured with membership of the more exclusive Order of the Dutch Lion, which has three grades and dates from 1815.

Volunteers

The oldest person to be honoured this year is 95-year-old former army officer Jan van Leeuwen from Ermelo who still volunteers at the infantry museum in Harskamp. Volunteers traditionally account for the bulk of the recipients.
Seedorf, who plays midfield for AC Milan and is 35, is the youngest to be honoured.
The list is traditionally published the day before Queen’s Day. For a full list of the winners, click here
