Supermarkets increase animal-friendly special offers

Supermarkets increased the number of special offers involving organic and animal-friendly products some 70% over the past year, according to research by animal rights group Wakker Dier.

In the first quarter of this year, the 10 big supermarket groups came up with a total 114 offers involving animal-friendly products, compared with 66 in the first three months of 2010.
Wakker Dier considers meat replacement products, organic meat, dairy and egg products and products with two or three stars from the animal protection body Dierenbescherming to be ‘animal-friendly’.
The Dirk/Bas/Digro chain had most animal-friendly offers, followed by Dekamarkt and then Albert Heijn.
