The total raised by the auction of household goods left by queen Juliana to her four daughters was over €5m, some €1.25m above the estimate, auctioneers Sotheby’s said on Thursday evening.

All 1,535 lots were sold and offers came from all over the world. The most expensive item was a silver Chinese tea service, which raised €204,750 and was bought by an anonymous bidder.
The money will be split between four charities
