Liberal VVD seeks deal with 50Plus party

Junior justice minister Fred Teeven of the governing Liberal VVD party had a private meeting with the 50Plus party leader Jan Nagel last Sunday, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

The VVD, its partner in government the Christian Democrats and the PVV which gives tacit support on economic issues, are concerned they will not achieve a majority in the upper house when the new make-up of the chamber is announced.
Teeven and Nagel were both formerly members of the Leefbaar Nederland party.
According to the Volkskrant, Teeven asked where Nagel felt 50Plus could give its support to government proposals in the upper house. Nagel said he would only begin negotiations with the VVD if the state pension was increased by €100 a year.
