Pro-animal party heads for court over election debate invite
The animal rights party PvdD is going to court to force broadcaster Nos to include it in the final televised debate before Wednesday’s provincial elections, the Volkskrant reports.
Nos has invited the leaders of the biggest eight parties in parliament to take part in the debate, but the PvdD with two seats, and the fundamentalist Christian SGP, also with two, have not been invited.
Nos argues it has followed voter choice and needs to limit numbers to keep the debate manageable.
Limits
‘I could accept that if there were 25 parties and you invite eight, but you cannot simply invite eight out of 10,’ party leader Marianne Thieme said.
The case will be heard by Amsterdam district court on Monday morning.
Earlier, new party 50PLUS threatened to take legal action if it was not given more coverage.
