New Dutch Afghan mission, first members arrive but more are needed
The first 30 Dutch members of the new police training mission in Kunduz have arrived in Afghanistan to begin making preparations, the defence ministry said at the weekend.
The Netherlands is sending a 545-strong mission to train local police officers under European and Nato auspices.
However, according to news agency ANP, Nato still faces a shortage of 740 trainers for Afghan police and soldiers.
Afghan president Hamid Karzai wants the local police and army to be ready to take the lead in protecting the country by 2014.
