MPs call for further pay cuts for NS executives
A large majority of MPs want the government to reduce the maximum salary level for Dutch rail executives and are planning to vote on the motion.
NS management pay scales were cut 20% last year but are still higher than ministerial salaries, which is the official benchmark for public sector pay.
According to the Volkskrant, finance minister Jan Kees de Jager has said he will advise against the move, even if parliament backs the idea.
The NS is expected to operate internationally and earns one third of its income from property, the minister said. This takes its brief wider than the purely public sphere.
