Minister to crack down on illegal employment agencies

Social affairs minister Henk Kamp told television show Nieuwsuur on Wednesday night he is to make it easier for labour inspectors to crack down on illegal employment agencies.

The programme focused on the exploitation of tens of thousands of Polish and other Eastern European workers, many of whom are under paid, get no sick pay and are charged too much for poor housing via illegal agencies.
The minister said he plans to introduce legislation requiring all staffing agencies to be officially registered and to make it easier for tax and other officials to exchange information about suspected abuses.
He also plans to make it possible to close down companies found using labour from unofficial sources.
