Hard winters help Nuon to more than double profits

Energy firm Nuon booked net profit of €563m last year, more than double its 2009 earnings of €200m, Nos television reports.

Even though the cost of energy has fallen, Nuon has benefited from successive hard winters which boosted demand for gas and electricity.
Nuon has 2.6 million customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Nuon was taken over by Swedish state-owned power group Vattenfall in 2009.
