Shop security staff should be given the right to take statements, and use handcuffs and truncheons, the head of the public prosecution service Harm Brouwer is quoted as saying by Nos television.
This would enable private security staff to better support the police, Brouwer said. Nos does not state in which context Brouwer made the comments.
The justice ministry is currently looking into the legal aspects of widening private security staff powers.
