Digital traffic cameras generate more fines

Placing digital cameras at traffic lights in Nijmegen resulted in four times as many fines for jumping red lights, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

In total, nearly 29,000 tickets were issued for driving through red lights. Digital cameras also led to an increase in speeding tickets.
Digital cameras can monitor traffic 24 hours a day, but old-fashioned cameras with film can only take 800 pictures, the paper said.
The Netherlands has 188 digital traffic cameras and 1,300 which still use an analogue system.
