Amsterdam appeal court on Friday tore up a banning order handed out to an Ajax football supporter, saying it is unclear what his role in a gang of football hooligans actually is.

Mayor Eberhard van der Laan had used new anti-hooligan legislation to ban the man from being part of a group in the city centre or near Ajax’ stadium and ordering him to report to the police on match days.
