Court costs to soar: the move is irresponsible, say judges
The government´s plans to cut spending on training judges and make court costs for ordinary citizens up to 20 times more expensive are unacceptable and irresponsible, the national judges association NVVR told television show Nieuwsuur on Wednesday night.
For example, the cost of appealing in court against a property valuation will go up from €40 to €800 and against a tax bill from €40 to €750, the programme said.
People only get the money back if they win their case.
The national ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer also told the show the plans endanger the legal system.
Earlier this week, legal aid lawyers protested about government plans to half their daily fee to €84.
