Afsluitdijk speed limit raised to 130kph

The Afsluitdijk – the 32km causeway between Noord-Holland province and Friesland – is to become the first road in the country where the speed limit will be upped to 130kph on an experimental basis.

The A2 between Everdingen and Deil, the A16 between Breda and Moerdijk and the A6 at night between Joure and Almere have also been earmarked for trials with the higher limit, transport minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen has told MPs.
The trials will start on March 1. The new government hopes eventually to increase the maximum speed limit on many more roads but says noise and pollution limits will also have to be taken into account.
