30% of cd shops have closed down
Almost 30% of Dutch CD shops have closed down over the past 11 years, the entertainment retailers association NVER said on Monday.
In 1999, some 34 million cds were sold in the Netherlands but this had halved to 17 million within 10 years.
Nevertheless, legal music downloads are not as popular in the Netherlands as in the rest of the world, accounting for 9% of music sales, compared with 27% worldwide.
