Schiphol passenger numbers rise almost 4%
Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport processed 45.3 million passengers last year, up 3.8% on 2009.
The increase follows declines of 0.8% in 2009 and 8% in 2009. ‘The airline sector is out of recession and was able to turn the negative tendancy into growth,’ CEO Jos Nijhuis said in a New Year speech to staff.
Maastricht Aachen airport also saw sharp growth in passenger numbers – up 44% to 260,000. The increase was due to a number of new destinations from budget airline Ryanair.
