Man jailed for hitting police officer with garden chair at New Year
A 43-year-old man from The Hague who hit a police officer on the head with a garden chair on New Year’s Eve has been jailed for three months, one suspended.
The man was one of several who appeared before fast-track courts on Monday. He was also ordered to pay the police officer compensation and given house arrest for the next two end-of-year celebrations.
Another man from The Hague was jailed for three months, two suspended, for throwing petrol on the street and at a car.
Twelve more cases will be heard in Utrecht and Amsterdam on Tuesday.
In total, 642 people were arrested during the New Year festivities.
