Handicapped youth Brandon to get new accommodation
The 18-year-old mentally handicapped youth who lives tied to the wall of his room in a care home will move to new specially adapted accommodation in two weeks time, junior health minister Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten said on Thursday.
The minister paid a visit to the home earlier in the day to assess the boy’s situation.
During a news conference after the visit, the minister said the youth, known as Brandon, is in good hands. ‘I left him in the knowledge that that there is no other way to protect him against himself, against the ‘bad Brandon’,’ she said, referring to his aggressive behaviour.
Nevertheless, the minister said she would get the ‘best possible heads’ together see if there is another solution to the problem of Brandon and 40 others who live in similar circumstances.
MPs had called on the minister to look into Brandon’s case after he was the subject of a television report earlier this week.
