The Netherlands is ‘open to help’ opposition leaders in Belarus, foreign minister Uri Rosenthal said on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day it emerged opponents of president Alexander Lukashenko had asked the Netherlands for help prior to Sunday’s election but the request was refused.
According to Trouw, they wanted to organise a meeting for opposition groups, but the paper gave no further details.
Now Rosenthal has told news agency ANP: ‘I am open to give assistance.’ Rosenthal made the comment after talks with his British counterpart William Hague, ANP said.
The Belarus authorities have jailed about 600 demonstrators since the disputed election, including seven presidential candidates, the BBC reports.
