The Dutch rich get richer in Quote 500 rich list
The Netherlands’ richest individuals and families have added an average 6.6% to their wealth over the past year, according to the latest edition of the Quote 500 rich list.
In 2009, their combined assets fell by 12.3% because of the recession, according to calculations by the business magazine.
As every year, the list is headed by the Brenninkmeijer family, which owns the C&A retail chain. Quote claims the family is worth €21bn.
New in second place is the Van der Vorm family, which owns the HAL investment fund and has estimated assets of €4.3bn. Third is Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, the beer empire heiress and one of just 21 women on the list.
The youngest person on the list is US-based 33-year-old baseball star Andruw Jones, who is said to have assets of €54m. The oldest is 92-year-old former property magnate Harry Nefkens, with €90m.
The Telegraaf points out that Jan is the most popular name on the rich list, appearing 27 times. Cees and Kees appear 12 times and Hans 10 times.
