Ruling parties do well in local elections
Turnout in the 29 local government elections held on Wednesday was lower than four years ago and the Christian Democrats and VVD remained the biggest parties in most areas.
There were no elections when the rest of the country went to the polls in March because of boundary changes.
Nineteen councils are being merged to create seven new ones. A further 10, including Weesp and Bussum, had been due to merge but local protests saw off the changes.
In the new merged local authority area of Sudwest Fryslan, the Friesan nationalist party took six seats, and is now the third biggest on the council.
